Welcome to Clarelly Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and White Swiss Shepherds
In the 70s Jan was working in London as a nurse and she regularly visited the Tate gallery where many paintings by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1802-1873) are displayed. He frequently painted Queen Victoria's beloved Cavaliers. There is a painting called King Charles Spaniels (The Cavalier's Pets) and while vising the Tate, this is the painting Jan fell in love with.
Jan attended Crufts while in London as well. Crufts is an international dog show held annually in the United Kingdom. Organised and hosted by the Kennel Club. However back then to Jan it was just the local dog show around the corner in Earls Court.
She came across the King Charles Spaniel, the flatter faced cousin to the Cavalier, and thought they were rather cute, however did not like the shorter noses of the 'Charlie'.
Some years later, after she returned to Australia she discovered the Cavalier when watching a My Dog, dog food advert and realised this was the breed from the paintings at the Tate Gallery.

Thus Clarelly Kennels was established in 1990 when Jan purchased her first Cavalier by the name of Chloe from Wedderlie kennels in country Victoria. In 2008 our first Shepherd joined the family.
Zarah was bred by our good friends Michelle Brooks and Scott Nimmo of Fanuilos kennels. Zarah was registered with the WSSDCA, while the WSSDCA dogs never gained recognition with the ANKC when the White Swiss Shepherd breed was recognised in 2010, she started our love affair with the breed.
