The Home of Cavaliers and White Shepherds

The Beginnings of a Love Affair with Cavaliers

When I lived in England I regularly visited the Tate Gallery where many paintings by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1802-1973) are displayed. He frequently painted Queen Victoria's beloved Cavaliers. His work was very popular and was frequently copied, this is a very often used example by a unknown artist, Circa 1880. I attended Crufts Dog Show in Earls Court . I saw a King Charles Spaniel and thought they where rather cute but did not like the "squashed" noses as I had heard that this could cause problems. Some years later, back in Australia, I am watching TV and saw an advert for My Dog dog food and in it was the dog I had seen in the paintings at The Tate Gallery. I got very excited and did some research and discovered the wonderful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We welcomed Chloe into our home in April 1990 when Clare was 2 years old. Clarelly Kennels is in Brunswick East Victoria.

How White Shepherds Entered the Mix

Zarah and her New Bestie SpiritZarah and her New Bestie Spirit

My friend Kay was an avid Ebayer and she was on the Ebay forum. At one point things became rather heated and she was told if you really want to see a heavy discussion check out Dogzonline Forums. Kay toddled over to DOL as it is affectionately called, and joined up. I joined in 24/04/2007. Through DOL forums we discovered Alpinarc Kennels in New South Wales and fell in love with these beautiful dogs so reminiscent in shape of the German Shepherd Dogs of my childhood. When we got Chloe, my partner Henry, had wanted a German Shepherd as he had had them with his family. But I said no way, I do not like what they look like. Angela from Alpinarc brought one of her pups down to Melbourne to donate as a Companion Dog to a young lady with Oesteogenisis Imperfecta. Kay and I met Ange and the pup at the airport and my heart was hooked. A monthly DOL meet is held at Kepala Pet Resort and here I meet Michelle and Scott from Fanuilos Kennels. When Fanuilos had their first litter Clare and I assisted with the whelping and 8 weeks later Zarah joined the Cavs in June 2008. At this point White Shepherds where not recognized by the ANKC. In 2009 the White Swiss Shepherd Dog was recognized but the Australian lines where not.
